Welcome to Plathville is a hit TLC reality TV show which follows the lives of Kim and Barry Plath and their nine children. Living on their farm in rural Georgia, the Plaths are known for their orthodox Christian and conservative views.

With their kids mostly sheltered from the outside world, the Plath kids are also not allowed access to computers and video games. Additionally, Kim and Barry do not believe in using contraceptives and family planning measures.

Apart from this, Kim Plath is also a homemaker and Naturopath by profession. Although the reality TV star often uses natural remedies, including medicinal herbs and massages, to help her clients with their pain and illnesses, she is not a licensed naturopathic doctor.

The tragic accident took the life of Kim and Barry’s 17-month-old son Joshua. Joshua died after Kim accidentally ran over her son with a vehicle. 

After the incident occurred, an ambulance was called. However, by the time the ambulance arrived, Joshua had passed away. 

This was a major misfortune for the Plaths, and it took quite some time for Kim to come to terms with her guilt and grief. In addition, when the accident occurred, Kim was pregnant with Amber. 

Fortunately, Barry helped Kim in dealing with the loss of their child. Although he grieved the loss of their son, Barry did not hold any grudges against Kim. 

In fact, he encouraged her to move on with her life. Kim shared in an episode of their reality TV show that she recognizes Joshua’s selflessness and kindness in dealing with the situation. Furthermore, she revealed that if Barry had been responsible for Joshua’s death, she would not have forgiven him so easily.

After 24 years of marriage, Kim Plath announced her separation from her husband, Barry, in June 2022. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the couple shared,

“After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage. While this was not an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us. We have been through many highs and lows in our 24 years of marriage, and as we navigate this new chapter in our lives, we will co-parent our amazing children.”

Barry reacted to their separation in an episode of their show’s fourth season. He said,

“I can’t help but feel a little betrayed. One thing I thought wouldn’t ever be shaken was us. Now it’s totally shaken up. It’s just really sad. It’s a tragedy.”

In October 2022, Kim Plath was taken into police custody after being arrested for driving under alcohol and damaging property in Florida. The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office in Crawfordville, Florida, confirmed the news of Plath’s arrest.

The US Sun first reported the news, and later speaking to PEOPLE magazine, the Sheriff’s department revealed,

“Kim Plath was arrested on an outstanding warrant from another agency. She turned herself in to our agency. Today, she turned herself into the Sheriff’s office in the lobby for arrest.”

Additionally, Plath also faced charges for property damage and personal Injury.
