Clifford Joseph Harris Jr, aka T.I.

Leyah Amore Harris was the daughter of rapper, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur T.I. He was born on September 25, 1980, in Atlanta, USA. His real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr.

He is the son of Clifford “Buddy” Harris Sr. and Violeta Morgan. Unfortunately, “Buddy” Harris Sr. had Alzheimer’s disease, which led to his eventual death.

At the age of eight, Clifford Harris Jr. started rapping. Initially, Harris used his childhood nickname “Tip” as his stage name. He also used to be known as Rubber Band Man.  

Considered one of the pioneers of trap music, T.I. released his debut album, I’m Serious, in 2001. In 2003, T.I. co-founded his label imprint, Grand Hustle Records, along with Jason Geter. 

To date, T.I. has released eleven studio albums. His sixth album, Paper Trail, was certified gold. In the first week of its release, Paper Trail made over 500,000 copies in the United States. 

A three-time Grammy Award winner, T.I. has released many successful singles such as “Whatever You Like,” “Live Your Life,” “Never Scared,” “Rubber Band Man,” “Let’s Get Away,” “Soldier,” “What You Know,” and “Big Shit Poppin’ (Do It).” In addition, T.I. was a featured artist on the superhit song single “Blurred Lines,” where he appeared alongside  Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.

T.I. made his movie debut in 2006 in the film ATL. The film revolved around T.I.’s early life in Atlanta, where he attended a skating rink called “Cascade.” The film opened at the box office with USD 11.5 million and eventually grossed USD 21.2 million.

In 2007, T.I. played the role of Stevie Lucas in the biographical crime film American Gangster. He starred in the crime-action thriller film Takers in 2010. The film was directed by John Luessenhop and featured a stellar cast of A-list celebrities, including Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, and Zoe Saldana. 

Apart from this, T.I. was a part of many other films, such as the 2013 crime comedy film Identity, the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart starrer Get Hard, and Marvel’s Ant-Man. Regarding his T.V. career, T.I. created the reality show T.I.’s Road to Redemption, aired on MTV. In 2011, his new reality show, T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle, was released on Vh1.

Regarding probation violations and a federal prison bid for a U.S. federal weapons charge, T.I. served two jail terms. On January 26, 2021, Sabrina Peterson claimed that T.I. had put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her at a kids’ party. 

Following the allegations by Peterson, more than 30 women and a man came forward and accused T.I. and his wife Tiny of “forced drugging, kidnapping, rape, and intimidation.” Moreover, they accused Tiny of making the victims take drugs to block their capability to give their consent to vile sexual acts. T.I. denied all the allegations in January 2021 and stated that all the sexual acts happened with consent.

Tameka “Tiny” Cottle

Leyah Amore Harris was the daughter of Tameka Dianne Cottle. Cottle, born July 14, 1975, is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and singer. Due to her height of 4 feet and 11 inches, Tameka Cottle is known by the name Tiny. 

Tameka Cottle was born in College Park, Georgia. Her mother’s name is Dianne Cottle, and her father is Charles “Speedy” Pope. Charles “Speedy” Pope and his brother, Joseph Pope, were the founders of The Tams’ R&B group.

Tameka Cottle was a student at  Tri-Cities Performing Arts High School. During her time there, she joined the R&B quartet Xscape. The group was discovered by producer Jermaine Dupri who helped Xscape get signed to the record label, So So Def Recordings.

Cottle contributed to Xscape’s three platinum albums, including Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, Off the Hook, and Traces of My Lipstick. In addition, she was awarded two Soul Train Music Awards for Best New R&B Artist and Best R&B Album. 

The talented singer has been credited as the lead vocalist of six of Xscape’s hit songs, which include “Understanding,” “Do You Want To?”, “All I Need,” “Love’s a Funny Thing,” “My Little Secret,” and “Am I Dreamin’.” In 1998, Xscape disbanded after releasing their album, Traces of My Lipstick.

In 2000, Tameka Cottle and Kandi Burruss were awarded the prestigious Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for writing the lyrics to TLC’s hit single “No Scrubs.” Xscape reunited in 2005 to release a new album called Unchained.

Tameka Cottle released her first solo single in 2014, “What The Fuck You Gon Do?”. In addition, she and her fellow Xscape bandmate Kandi Burruss have been credited as one of the songwriters of Ed Sheeran’s hit song “Shape of You.”

Tiny and T.I. Relationship

Rapper T.I. and singer-songwriter Tameka “Tiny” Cottle made their relationship public in 2001. Since then, the two have had an on-and-off romance for years. 

When T.I. started dating Tameka, he had already fathered three children. In 2004, Tiny gave birth to her and T.I.’s first-born child,  Clifford “King” Joseph Harris III. Their daughter, Leyah Amore Harris, was stillborn. Then, in 2008, their son Major Philant Harris was born.

The hip-hop power couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Miami in 2010. Six years later, their daughter Heiress Diana Harris was born. 

Just a few months after the birth of Heiress, news about T.I. and Tiny’s divorce started doing the rounds. According to reports, T.I.’s infidelity led their relationship to turn cold.

Leyah Amore Harris Death and Funeral

Reflecting on the tragic loss of her daughter Leyah Amore Harris, songwriter Tameka Cottle in a 2009 interview with Essence.com, made shocking revelations. She revealed that the sac holding the baby was split in two and had not merged. 

The doctor had warned her that the baby could get tied up in her umbilical cord. However, Cottle had never thought that she would lose her little munchkin. 

Tragically, six months into the pregnancy, Tameka Cottle’s biggest nightmare became a reality. She revealed,

“When I went to see the specialist, that’s when they determined there was no heartbeat. She was 6 months old and I named her Leyah Amore.”

Tiny further added,

“I keep her belongings near me — pictures and roses. It was very deep. Here I am, in the hospital to have a baby, deliver it, but I’m going to go home with no baby. After Leyah was born, I kept her in the room with me the whole day. They placed her in the little basket and we dressed her in an outfit and had a blanket wrapped around her. They came and got her because her body went cold and I wanted her back so they warmed her body again and I kept her. People might think that’s crazy, but I just needed to be with her.”

Despite being stillborn, Leyah Amore Harris received a proper funeral from her parents, T.I.Tiny. Her parents, siblings, family friends, and close relatives attended the funeral.

In an interview, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle revealed that even to this day, she remembers baby Leyah. However, she added that she avoids going to Leyah’s grave since it’s “too sad.” 

Talking about how difficult it was for her to grieve the loss of Leyah, Tiny said,

“I was very upset and depressed for a while…I kept a lot of company around me to help me keep my mind off of it, so I wouldn’t be so sad.”

Likewise, Tameka said that despite Leyah’s untimely demise, the devastating loss helped bring her and her husband closer to their relationship.
